The roots of the GRG Educational Institutions in Coimbatore go back to the year 1956, a time when education for girls was considered a rare privilege. The idea of empowering women through education was conceived by Sri G.R. Govindarajulu and his wife, Smt. G. Chandrakanthi when such ideas were unwelcome and unheard of.

Every endeavour of the group was spearheaded by Smt. G. Chandrakanthi. From monitoring the day to day activities, to ensuring that students were firmly rooted in the cultural heritage of the country, her relentless efforts elevated the group to unprecedented heights. The edifice of values of the institutions was built around Knowledge, Love and Service. The world has changed immeasurably in every sphere and the GRG Group continues its mission to serve the society on its own value-based foundation.

Five decades later, the vision of the founder has spread beyond just one institution to encompass a total of nine centres of learning. Each institution embodies the timeless values of the founder to leave a legacy on the educational landscape of South India.

The PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, established in 1963, is an autonomous institution dedicated for women seeking higher learning at the Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctoral levels. This ISO 9001:2000 certified college has the distinction of being the first women’s college under Bharathiar University accredited with 5-Star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The college offers an array of over 35 undergraduate and post-graduate programmes.
